Assistant General Counsel

About the role

The Maples Group is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join its fiduciary services business in Grand Cayman. This senior in‑house position provides strategic legal leadership across multiple jurisdictions, supporting commercial, regulatory, employment and dispute matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a global team of Senior Legal Counsel and Attorneys, managing performance and professional growth.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts and multi‑entity agreements across all MaplesFS jurisdictions.
• Provide cross‑jurisdictional legal advice, ensure regulatory compliance, and support interactions with supervisory authorities such as CIMA.
• Advise HR and senior management on employment law, disciplinary processes, and policy development.
• Oversee litigation strategy, budgets and coordination with external counsel.
• Guide fiduciary duties for directors and advise on unit trust, structured finance and D&O insurance matters.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer admitted (or eligible) to practice in the Cayman Islands with 7‑10 years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong background in financial services, fiduciary or funds environments.
• Proven experience managing junior attorneys and leading legal teams.
• Excellent commercial judgement and stakeholder management skills.
