Regulatory Lawyer – Associate/Senior Associate

About the role

KPMG Law in the Cayman Islands is seeking an experienced regulatory lawyer to join its financial services practice. The Associate/Senior Associate will advise clients across banking, re/insurance, securities, virtual assets, corporate services and company management on multi‑jurisdictional transactions and regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality regulatory advice on complex financial services issues.
• Lead licence and change‑of‑control applications, AML, data protection, beneficial ownership and economic substance matters.
• Manage client engagements, ensuring clear scope, delivery and commercial outcomes.
• Collaborate with KPMG’s global network to deliver integrated services.
• Contribute to fee estimates, proposals and practice development.
• Mentor junior lawyers and support internal knowledge resources.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with at least 5 years post‑qualification experience, preferably from a top‑tier firm.
• Strong commercial mindset and ability to build trusted client relationships.
• Experience in Commonwealth jurisdictions is desirable.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in financial services regulatory law.
• Knowledge of CIMA rules and regulations.
• Experience with AML compliance.
• Data protection and privacy law familiarity.
• Understanding of beneficial ownership and economic substance requirements.
• Virtual asset regulatory experience (advantageous).
