Social Media Specialist

About the role

The Social Media Specialist will elevate Compass Media’s digital platforms by creating scroll‑stopping content for online audiences. Working within a fast‑paced team, you will translate complex topics into short‑form video and text, supporting both digital and broadcast output.

Key responsibilities

• Create engaging reels, videos, graphics, polls and live updates that reflect the brand and resonate with the local audience.
• Edit, write and publish social posts that accompany website articles and television output.
• Produce copy for newsletters and occasional on‑location social posts.
• Collaborate with newsroom journalists and other departments to produce cross‑platform content.
• Engage with followers, respond to comments and messages in line with company policy.
• React quickly to breaking news, managing multiple projects without compromising quality.

Required profile

• Social‑first thinker with a strong storytelling instinct.
• At least two years of experience producing and editing social‑first content.
• Chronically online, tracking trends, formats and the news cycle.
• Organised, reliable under pressure and confident directing journalists.

Required skills

• Proficiency in video and image editing software such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop.
• Excellent writing, scripting, titling and scheduling abilities.
• Deep understanding of platform‑specific storytelling for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
• Strong asset‑management and file‑naming conventions.
