Fraud Engineer

About the role

Ether.fi is seeking a Fraud Engineer with a keen eye for anomalous patterns and a passion for outsmarting sophisticated attackers. You will own the end‑to‑end fraud stack for our crypto‑based financial products, credit‑card program, and fund flows, collaborating closely with engineering, customer experience, and compliance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain real‑time fraud monitoring, alerting, and automated mitigation systems.
• Investigate emerging threats such as cashback farming, card testing, merchant abuse, friendly fraud, money‑laundering and other malicious behaviors within the Ether.fi ecosystem.
• Develop and fine‑tune advanced fraud rules, behavioral signals, and scoring models.
• Build internal tools, dashboards and scripts that increase team efficiency.
• Define fraud strategy and operational playbooks that scale with product growth.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams and external partners to mitigate fraud risk.

Required profile

• Genuine excitement for spotting weird patterns and scam tactics.
• Exceptional ability to extract hidden signals from noisy transaction and behavioral data.
• High ownership, low ego, and the capacity to deliver results in a fast‑moving, ambiguous environment.
• Experience in fintech, neobank or issuer processing is a plus.
• Familiarity with web3/crypto fraud patterns and consumer fraud scenarios.
• Background in building or scaling early‑stage fraud operations teams.
• Knowledge of card/payment fraud mechanics (card testing, BIN attacks, friendly fraud, merchant collusion, etc.).
