Operating Theater Scrub & Circulating Registered Nurse

About the role

The Operating Theater Scrub & Circulating Registered Nurse provides exceptional patient care in the operating suite, acting as the patient’s advocate during the most vulnerable moments. This role combines scrub and circulating duties to ensure a safe, efficient, and compassionate surgical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist surgeons as a scrub nurse, maintaining aseptic technique and handling instruments throughout procedures.
• Manage circulating duties, including patient reception, equipment setup, instrument counts, and safety checks.
• Coordinate emergency responses and ensure compliance with surgical safety checklists.
• Maintain stock levels, prepare the operating room for emergencies, and update policy manuals.
• Document nursing care accurately and support recovery room procedures.
• Participate in clinical trials of new equipment and mentor less‑experienced staff.

Required profile

• Graduated from an accredited nursing school and registered with the Cayman Islands Nursing and Midwifery Council.
• Minimum five years recent experience in an operating‑room setting, covering both scrub and circulating roles.
• Proven knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques and patient safety protocols.
• Ability to work flexible rosters, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Aseptic and sterile technique proficiency.
• Patient safety and surgical instrument handling.
• Operating room equipment management.
