Associate Director – Compliance & AML

About the role

Waystone is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead compliance and anti‑money‑laundering (AML) advisory, AML Officer oversight and risk‑based AML/CFT/CPF and financial sanctions governance programmes for regulated entities.

Key responsibilities

• Act as subject‑matter expert on investor AML regulations, design and maintain compliance policies, procedures and monitoring programmes.
• Oversee AML Officer appointments (Compliance Officer, Reporting Officer) and independently discharge those responsibilities.
• Lead development and continuous improvement of AML/CFT/CPF and financial sanctions governance frameworks for investment funds and securities businesses.
• Own entity‑level risk‑assessment methodology, review risk assessments and approve risk‑to‑audit mapping.
• Plan, execute and lead independent AML/CFT/CPF audits, including audit design, testing, work‑paper review and remediation governance.
• Prepare and present annual AML governance packages, audit reports and remediation plans to governing bodies and senior stakeholders.
• Serve as senior point of contact for regulators, external investigations and client meetings.
• Mentor and manage Associates and Senior Associates, allocate work, develop templates and ensure quality delivery.

Required profile

• University degree in law, business, finance, accounting, governance, compliance, risk management or a related discipline.
• Professional qualification in AML/compliance (CAMS preferred) or equivalent (ICA, CIA, ACCA, CPA, Chartered Accountant, legal).
• Minimum six years of experience in financial services, compliance, audit, governance or risk management, with demonstrable leadership of AML/CFT/CPF risk assessments and audits.
• Strong knowledge of Cayman Islands AML/CFT/CPF legislation and CIMA regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to develop governance frameworks, conduct independent audits and present findings to senior boards.
