Assistant General Counsel

About the role

The Maples Group is seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to join its fiduciary services business in Grand Cayman. This senior in‑house position will act as a strategic partner to the General Counsel and provide commercial‑focused legal advice across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a global team of Senior Legal Counsel and Attorneys, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Oversee team resourcing, performance management and professional development.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex client contracts, multi‑entity agreements and vendor arrangements across all MaplesFS jurisdictions.
• Maintain and enhance precedent documentation and contractual frameworks.
• Provide cross‑jurisdictional legal advice on regulatory matters, employment law, disputes and new business initiatives.
• Lead high‑value negotiations with clients and external counsel.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in corporate and commercial law, including contracts, regulatory compliance, employment matters and dispute resolution.
• Proven leadership experience managing senior legal professionals in a global environment.
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to operate effectively across multiple jurisdictions.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
